Job description Compliance Counsel @ Catawiki
As Compliance Counsel, you will play a key advisory role on any relevant compliance related issues. You will be dedicated to ensure that Catawiki complies with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies. In short, you are responsible for making sure that Catawiki plays by the rules. We're looking for candidates with a growth mindset and professional drive, with the ability to quarterback important projects and have company-level impact while working on a variety of regulatory compliance matters.
You'll have a meaningful role on a small-but-mighty legal team and the opportunity to develop professionally in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
More specifically, as a compliance professional you will need to (a.o.):
- Keep informed of any relevant regulatory developments as they occur and analyzing their applicability to the company’s activities and objectives, highlight or escalate areas of concern;
- Review company policies, projects and practices on a regular basis to ensure that all are in compliance;
- Develop, monitor, keep relevant and actual company compliance performance/KPIs and report on those to ensure that the Board is supplied with all pertinent and relevant information on the company’s internal controls, operations and risks;
- Develop and implement an employee compliance training plan;
- Act as a dedicated sparring partner for the business, management and employees on compliance related topics;
- Key compliance themes are Product regulatory compliance (e.g. CITES, Ivory, Diamonds, cultural heritage), Sanctions, Export Controls, Anti-Money Laundering, Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Trust, Third Party Due Diligences, compliance management systems and compliance risk analyses;
- Build the company compliance program and policies to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and contribute to robust and effective risk/compliance tools, controls and processes within the company.

Job requirements Compliance Counsel @ Catawiki
A Master degree in Law!
You are experienced in the field of Compliance Management (at least 7 years of proven professional experience in the field of compliance) and an independent, goal-oriented and systematic way of working is what distinguishes you. You also have strong analytical and conceptual skills. In addition to assertiveness and teamwork skills, you have a positive, confident and open appearance and strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. You have a structured way of working to reach targeted results, have an eye for detail and you are able to also take an helicopter view.
You are well aware of all relevant legal regulations (particularly local prosecution law, anti-trust regulations, US FCPA and UK Bribery Act) and can navigate confidently in a demanding and dynamic business context.
You'll often have to make decisions on the information available, which is not always in black and white;
Ability to facilitate, establish and maintain a pragmatic and risk based approach;
Able to guard and secure the sensitivity of issues/topics at hand;
Flexible and able to prioritize between different tasks based;
You have a proven ability to understand the bigger picture, analyse and interpret details and information quickly (decisions need to be made within minutes);
A gatekeeper of “trust and compliance” for the company;
A passionate about integrity and proven track record of understanding impact of your discipline on company processes and stakeholders;
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to connect with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels, including the executive team;
Project management skills, as you're likely to have to juggle a number of projects at one time!

Working and hiring remotely
When it is safe to do so, Catawiki will be implementing a hybrid work policy where employees based in the Netherlands will work from the office 1-2 times per week and from home for the rest. All of our expert positions are 100% remote based.
